Lieutenant Colonel Brian M. Dwyer

Commanding Officer, Wounded Warrior Battalion West

Lieutenant Colonel Dwyer was born in New Rochelle, New York in 1971. He attended the United States Naval Academy and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in 1993.

Upon completion of The Basic School and the Combat Engineer Officer Course (Academic Honor Graduate), LtCol Dwyer was assigned to the Engineer Support Company, Combat Service Support Group-1 in Twenty-nine Palms, CA where he served as a Platoon Commander, Company Executive Officer, and later as Company Commander.

In 1997, LtCol Dwyer reported to the Recruit Training Regiment, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, CA where he served as a Series Platoon Commander and Charlie Company Commander with the 1st Recruit Training Battalion, and then as the Assistant Director of the Drill Instructor School. He transferred to the Headquarters, U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Europe in Stuttgart, Germany in 2000 where he served as the Aide de Camp to the Deputy Commanding General and then as a Theater Security Cooperation Officer in the G-5 Directorate. Concurrently, LtCol Dwyer served at NATO’s Joint Command South Center in Larissa, Greece. He returned from Europe in 2002 and reported to the 4th Combat Engineer Battalion in Baltimore, MD for duty as an Inspector-Instructor and the Operations Officer.

LtCol Dwyer was assigned to the 1st Combat Engineer Battalion from 2005 until 2008. During that time he held the billets of Engineer Support Company Commander and Battalion Executive Officer before assuming command in 2007. He served as the Battalion Commander until 2008. LtCol Dwyer was deployed for combat operations in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2005 and 2006. During this timeframe he served as Transition Team Chief for Iraqi Special Police Commando Bn 2-4-2, and then for National Police Bn 2-7-2.

In 2008 LtCol Dwyer was transferred to Headquarters, U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Pacific where he served as the Engineer Operations Officer until 2010. At that time, he reported to Headquarters, U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Korea for duty as the Assistant Chief of Staff, G-4. LtCol Dwyer then reported to the Marine Corps Tactics and Operations Group in 2011 where he was assigned as the Attack the Network Division Head. He also served with the U.S. Central Command as the Chief, Quick Reaction Branch, Science and Technology Division, CCJ8.

LtCol Dwyer transferred to the First Marine Division and assumed command of the 3d Combat Engineer Battalion in 2012. LtCol Dwyer is a graduate of the Amphibious Warfare School, the U.S. Army Airborne School, and the Marine Corps Command and Staff College.

LtCol Brian M. Dwyer is currently serving as the Commanding Officer, Wounded Warrior Battalion West. LtCol Dwyer’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (3 Gold Stars), Joint Service Commendation Medal (Oak Leaf cluster), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (“V” and 3 Gold Stars), Army Commendation Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
