Sergeant Major Raquel R. Painter serves with the Wounded Warrior Battalion (East) at Camp Lejeune, NC.
Sergeant Major Painter was born in Sioux City, Iowa and shipped to Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, SC. in August of 1989. Upon completion of her initial training at Camp Del Mar, Camp Pendleton, CA she was designated an Administration Clerk and assigned to 1st FSSG. During her tour at 1st FSSG, she was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Corporal.
In 1992 she was assigned to MWSS-171, Iwakuni, Japan where she served as Orders Chief and participated in various exercises to include Cobra Gold 94. She was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in January 1994 and shortly after transferred to the Oklahoma City Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) where she served on a joint duty assignment. During her tour at the MEPS, she participated in the humanitarian efforts of the tragic bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building and was selected by the Women Marine Association and the Recruiting Command to lay the Presidential Wreath at the Alfred P. Murrah Memorial site. She was also selected as Military Member of the Year for two consecutive years.
In October 1997, she was then transferred to MARFORLANT, Norfolk VA, where she served as Manpower Chief and held the additional billet of Color Sergeant. She was promoted to Staff Sergeant December 1998 and requested orders to Recruiting Duty. Upon completion of Recruiting School, Staff Sergeant Painter was assigned duty at RSS Omaha, NE.
In 2003, upon completing a successful tour on Recruiting Duty, Staff Sergeant Painter received orders to 3d FSSG, Okinawa, Japan. She was hand selected to serve as the Commanding General’s Administration Chief and also filled the billets of Protocol Officer and Executive Assistant. She was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant in September 2003. In January 2005, Gunnery Sergeant Painter participated in Operation UNIFIED ASSISTANCE, which was responsible for U.S. military tsunami disaster relief assistance in Sri Lanka and the Maldives. In June 2006, Gunnery Sergeant Painter was transferred to MAG-26 where she served as Administration Chief for the MAG until her selection and subsequently frocking to First Sergeant.
In March 2007, First Sergeant Painter received orders to Combat Logistics Battalion 8 where she was assigned to Headquarters and Service Company. During her tour with CLB-8, she deployed to Camp Fallujah, Iraq in support of Operation Iraq Freedom. In July 2009, she reported to Combat Logistics Battalion – 6 where she deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom as the Headquarters and Service Company First Sergeant. During this deployment, she was responsible for Marines and Sailors at 5 different Forward Operating Bases throughout Afghanistan. She was selected to be the Brigade Headquarters Group Female Engagement Team Leader where she participated in 11 patrol missions and was responsible for 23 Marine FET members and 2 Corpsman FET members. For the remaining two months of the deployment she served as the Battalion Sergeant Major, which she was senior enlisted advisor for over 900 Marines and Sailors in a combat environment. She was then transferred to Communications Company, 2D Marine Division in December 2010 until her promotion to Sergeant Major. Sergeant Major Painter was assigned orders to Marine Attack Squadron 513 where she deployed in support of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit. After deactivation of Marine Attack Squadron 513, she received orders to her current assignment as Sergeant Major, Wounded Warrior Battalion East.
