LtCol Suttee enlisted in the Marine Corps in May 1987, serving as a Radio Operator in 9th Communications Battalion and the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit before acceptance into the Marine Enlisted Commissioning Education Program.
He was commissioned in May 1993 and upon completion of The Basic School and Field Artillery Officer Basic Course, reported to Battery I, 3d Battalion, 11th Marines where he served as a Forward Observer, Fire Direction Officer and Executive Officer. He was subsequently assigned to the Marine Barracks Ground Defense Security Force, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba as the Assistant Operations Officer and Fire Support Coordinator.
In 1998, he attended the Amphibious Warfare School and was subsequently assigned to 5th Battalion, 10th Marine Regiment where he served as Commanding Officer of Headquarters Battery and Battery S. Upon completion of a deployment to Okinawa, Japan with Battery S, he was assigned to Headquarters Marine Corps where he served as the Artillery Company Grade Assignments Monitor and Head of Company Grade Assignments.
In 2005, he attended the Australian Command and Staff College and was subsequently re-assigned to 5th Battalion, 10th Marine Regiment where he served as Operations Officer and Executive Officer. In 2007, he deployed as a Civil Affairs Detachment Commander to the U.S. Army Brigade serving in Ramadi, Iraq in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.
In 2008, LtCol Suttee reported to U.S. Joint Forces Command, Joint Warfighting Center where he served as a Fires and Targeting Observer/Trainer on the Deployable Training Team supporting Joint Task Force certification exercises world-wide and multiple Staff Assistance Visits to Multi-National Corps-Iraq and the International Security and Assistance Force in Afghanistan.
In 2010, he took command of 2d ANGLICO and deployed the company to Helmand Province in support of II MEF (FWD) in Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.
He is joining the battalion after a Top Level School Fellowship at the U.S. Agency for International Development. He assumed command of Wounded Warrior Battalion East on 11 June, 2013.
LtCol Suttee holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from the University of Oklahoma and a Post Graduate Certificate in Management from the University of Canberra.
He is married to the former Valerie Settles of Moore, Oklahoma and has three children: Elisabeth (23), Rachel (19), and Andrew (13).
