Marine veteran Sgt. Sergio Marino, an 0111 administrative specialist, joined the Marine Corps in 2003.

He started his first position after transitioning from the Corps in 2012 as a security assistant working at the Office of Senate Security. His job functions include processing ingoing and outgoing visit requests, briefing employees on specialized accesses, and creating and maintaining personnel clearance records.

“The transition cell helped me from beginning to end. They were able to provide both subject matter expertise as well as holistic points of view. I was able to put together a very marketable and individualized resume that led to interviews, and eventually a job offer and my acceptance.”

Marino has worked there for two years, becoming a valuable part of the team, and quickly gaining more responsibilities and assignments.

His advice to wounded, ill and injured Marines is “transitioning to the civilian sector takes hard work and dedication. Nothing will replace the uniform but the lessons [you] learn in the Marines are very strong building blocks for a successful transition into the civilian professional world.”
