When a Marine is wounded, falls ill or is injured, everything changes. First, are the medical needs – healing body and mind. This can include a regimen of medication, surgeries, doctor visits, and physical and cognitive therapy. Then, decisions to remain in the Marine Corps, if feasible, or return to the civilian community arise. Regardless the goal, there are many actions to be accomplished. To provide wounded, ill and injured (WII) Marines order and break the recovery steps into specific, manageable tasks, the Wounded Warrior Regiment (WWR) helps Marines craft and execute their Comprehensive Recovery Plan (CRP). This plan is developed by the Marine and his / her Recovery Care Coordinator. The CRP is a living document that outlines specific actions along with the resources needed to complete them. The required steps change as Marines move through their recovery mission. Steps can range from attending Physical Therapy to build strength to completing the Integrated Disability Evaluation System (IDES) to determine fitness for duty and disability ratings. The WWR is focused on healing the entire Marine. Using the CRP, a Marine is able to create goals that touch each part of his / her life, so they can focus on more than healing medically.
