Non Medical Case Management


The mission of the Non Medical Case Manager (NMCM) is to provide and facilitate non medical assistance to ill and injured Marines, Sailors attached to or in support of Marine units, and their family members throughout the phases of recovery in order to assist in the rehabilitation to full or limited duty or the transition to medical separation.

Marines and Sailors assigned to the Wounded Warrior Battalion-West will be assigned a NMCM for the duration of their rehabilitation and transition period.

Some of the NMCM responsibilites include:

  • Identifying ill and injured Marines/Sailors from the various Major Subordinate Commands, Military Treatment Facilities (MTF), MTF Case Managers, VA Hospital Liaisons, Non Profit Hospitals and agencies to establish contact and liaison.
  • Providing assistance in resolving administrative issues (i.e. pay, entitlements, awards, etc).
  • Conducting periodic official visits at subordinate MTFs and parent commands.
  • Providing training to ill and injured personnel’s Remain Behind Element (RBE).
  • Establishing, maintaining, and updating files on ill and injured personnel via the Marine Corps Wounded Injured Ill Tracking System (MCWIITS).
  • Establishing continual contact with these Marines/Sailors and their parent commands ensuring all issues have been addressed.

Medical Liaison


Medical Liaison reports directly to the WWBn-West Commanding Officer. Maintains all medical/dental records for staff and residents. Updates parent command medical officer or designated command medical official weekly on any pertinent medical changes or concerns.

Medical Liaisons focus on delivering personalized services to patients to improve their care, and involves four steps:

  1. Screening to find appropriate patients
  2. Planning & delivery of care
  3. Evaluation of results for each patient & adjustment of the care plan
  4. Evaluation of overall program effectiveness & adjustment of the program.

Medical Liaisons are the bridge to matching resources and assisting clients and their families. Services include:

  • Coordinating pertinent cure with Medical Case Managers, Injured Support Unit, and designated Medical Treatment Facilities (MTF)
  • Maintaining all medical, dental records and retain records on site for privacy and security
  • Assisting with Limited Duty (LIMDU) or PEB
  • Assisting related commands with tracking, guiding and supporting WII Marines and FMF personnel.
