Sergeant Major Benjamin L. Pangborn, USMC

Sergeant Major Benjamin L. Pangborn serves with the Wounded Warrior Battalion (East) at Camp Lejeune, NC.

Sergeant Major Pangborn was born on September 25, 1968, in Buffalo, New York. Entering the United States Marine Corps on 26 October 1986. Private First Class Pangborn graduated from Recruit Training at 2nd Battalion G Company, Parris Island, South Carolina in December 1987. He then attended Infantry Training at the School of Infantry at Camp Geiger, for further training as a mortar man. Upon, completion of training, he received orders to Damnneck, Virginia for training in the Marine Corps Security Force. After school he was sent to Sigonnella, It. from 1988-1989. In 1990, he reported to Wpns Co. 3rd Bn 8th for duty as a mortar man. In June of 1990, he reported to Wpns Co. 1st Bn 8Th Mar. for duty as a mortar man. In December of 1990 he deployed to the Persian Gulf and participated in Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Upon returning to the United States he reported to Guantanamo Bay for duty with Marine Barracks from 1991 thru 1992. In 1992 he received orders to Quantico, Virginia for school with the Marine Security Guard Program. Upon graduating school he reported for duty at US Embassy Georgetown, Guyana. In 1994 Sergeant Pangborn transferred to the US Embassy in Rabat, Morocco. Upon completion of duty in Rabat, and Meritorious Promotion to Staff Sergeant, he reported to 2nd BN 6th MAR for duty as an Infantry Platoon Sergeant. From September of 2000 thru October 2003 Gunnery Sergeant Pangborn served as a Faculty Advisor and Chief Instructor at the SNCOA Camp LeJeune. In October 2003 he reported to Headquarts Company 2nd Marine Regiment for duty as Company Gunnery Sergeant. 1st Sergeant Pangborn reported for duty with MWCS 28 on 15 January 2004 where he served as the Company First Sergeant for Bravo Company. While with Bravo Company 1st Sergeant Pangborn made three deployments to Iraq in support of OIF. In March 2008 Sergeant Major Pangborn was promoted to his present rank and report for duty as the squadron Sergeant Major for Headquarters and Headquarte rs Squadron MCAS Futenma Okinawa.In January 2011 Sergeant Major Pangborn report for duty to the Wounded Warrior Battalion East for duty as the Battalion Sergeant Major.

His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal with gold star in lieu of second award, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with gold star in lieu of second award the Combat Action Ribbon, Good Conduct with Silver Star and bronze star, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal with 2 stars, Kuwait Liberation Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal Kuwait. Sergeant Major Pangborn is married to the former Shannon Swenson of Woodbridge, Virginia. They have two children a daughter, Katie 13 and son Drew 4.

He is the Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Battalion Commander.
