OUR MISSION
There are many ways to assist wounded warriors in their healing and to promote inner strength. On
their journey of recovery Marines begin to reexamine who they are, what brings them hope and their
purpose in life. The role of the WWR Chaplains and Religious Program Specialists is to assist Marines
and their families by building and sustaining a spirit of hope, an enduring spirit of resiliency and a strong
sense of well-being. Care and assistance is provided throughout all stages of recovery through pastoral
counseling, religious sacraments, and confidential communication. Chaplains serve on several multi-
disciplinary teams to advise and provide spiritual insight during the recovery process. They also travel to
isolated and remote locations to provide support to Marines and their families.
Benefits of Spiritual Recovery
Extensive studies have linked the therapeutic aspects of spirituality to successful treatment
of war wounds including PTSD in veterans. When veterans experienced the therapeutic effects of spirituality
it resulted in better mental health and physical functioning. Many veterans report issues involving the
difficulties of guilt and forgiveness of self and others. Spirituality naturally deals with these complex
difficulties in mostly therapeutic ways. Religion and spirituality also provides guidance for warriors on
complicated moral questions, social support networks with shared values and help to bring renewed
meaning and purpose to their lives.
