WARRIOR ATHLETE RECONDITIONING (WAR) PROGRAM MISSION
Marines are Warrior Athletes. As such, maintaining a high level of physical fitness is crucial to overall combat success. Consequently, Marines exercise daily and at a high intensity. When confronted with illness, injury, or combat wounds, these Marines often lose the ability to exercise at the same rate and intensity while they are going through rehabilitation. As a result, negative issues arise. Intrinsic motivation and confidence is compromised, muscle mass decreases, weight gain occurs, and aerobic capacity is diminished. These negative factors exasperate the Marine's rehabilitative regiment and only serve to undermine the overall process. The significance of this situation has widespread implications for the Marine seeking to return to full duty, or to be successfully reintegrated into civilian life. Our mission is to provide Marines with the expertise and tools necessary to accomplish physical fitness. This ranges from basic reconditioning to high level sports competitions, all with the purpose of assisting Marines reach their goal.

OVERVIEW
The Warrior Athlete Reconditioning (WAR) program provides opportunities for wounded, ill, and injured marines to engage in both physical and cognitive activities outside the traditional therapy setting. The program provides opportunities for wounded, ill, and injured marines to fine tune their skills, strengthen their bodies and support each other through their recovery process. In sports, the athletic training room provides the athlete with a positive, motivational, non-medical environment in which they can achieve the level of physical fitness necessary to continue competing. In the same fashion, Marines use the WAR program to regain their physical and mental well-being. Most rehabilitative programs effectively restore less than 90% of function. The WAR program will help to increase overall function beyond the level of the rehab process, thus, helping to decrease potential for re-injury and increase the Marine's expectation for success.
