The Warrior Games will take place 10-14 May 2010 at the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Sports include swimming, cycling, track & field, shooting, archery, wheelchair basketball*, and seated volleyball. This program is designed to elevate abilities through athletic competition for wounded, ill, and injured servicemembers, providing a focal event to empower the incorporation of athletics into Military Service wounded warrior programs.

The Warrior Games will be an annual event to celebrate the achievement and abilities of wounded, ill, and injured servicemembers. This process provides the opportunity for servicemembers to qualify for U.S. Paralympics, while building camaraderie and raising awareness for adaptive sports. The Wounded Warrior Regiment will begin taking applications for athletes in mid-December. The Marine Corps will field a team of 50 athletes plus 10 alternates.

Purpose
The Warrior Games were created to elevate abilities through athletic competition for wounded, ill, and injured Service Members, providing a focal event to empower the incorporation of athletics into Military Service wounded warrior programs.


Objective
The Warrior Games becomes an annual event to celebrate the achievement and abilities of wounded, ill, and injured Service Members. It becomes the payoff event for Service Members to incorporate athletic training as a part of their overall transition plan. This process provides the opportunity for Service Members to qualify for U.S. Paralympics, while building camaraderie and raising awareness for adaptive sports.


Overview
The Warrior Games are scheduled for the week of 10-14 MAY 2010 at the U.S. Olympic Committee’s (USOC) Olympic Training Center, Colorado Springs, Colorado. Wounded Warrior programs from each Military Service are committed to support and participate. Monthly working groups are ongoing between the Services since MAY 09.



Clinics
Some sports may have tryouts depending upon applications received. This will be announced to individuals upon application review.

*During the 2010 season the Games will be open to active duty, reserve and veteran service members, with 50 competitors and 10 alternates. Team selection will be conducted by a three member selection committee which includes each sport’s head coach.
